Radiological assessment of traumatic bone injuries secondary to motorcycle accidents in Ghana: a multi-center cross-sectional study

Klintaps researchers reviewed the X-ray reports of 1,736 people injured in motorcycle accidents across several Ghanaian centres between 2020 and 2023. Leg and thigh bones were broken most often, passengers were hurt worse than riders, and the number of cases rose every year, adding pressure on emergency departments.

The tibia/fibula (43.3%), femur (20.6%) and skull (9.3%) were the most frequently fractured bones.

Sonographic diagnostic accuracy and imaging patterns of testicular torsion in a quaternary facility in Ghana: a five-year retrospective study

Testicular torsion is an emergency where every hour counts. Reviewing five years of surgically confirmed cases at a Ghanaian quaternary hospital, the team found that scrotal ultrasound correctly identified about 87% of cases, but most patients, mainly teenagers, arrived more than six hours after symptoms began.

Ultrasound sensitivity was 92.96% and overall diagnostic accuracy 86.96% (specificity 66.67%).

Prevalence and Risk Factors of Anemia in Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Clinic at a Medical Center in Accra, Ghana: A Cross‐Sectional Study

More than half of 152 pregnant women attending antenatal care at an Accra medical centre were anaemic. Women who ate too few iron-rich foods, had sickle cell disease or carried intestinal worms were far more likely to be anaemic, which supports routine screening and nutrition support in antenatal care.

Anaemia affected 55.9% of participants: 63.5% of cases mild, 36.5% moderate.

Association of Breastfeeding Practices and Maternal Socioeconomic Status With Child Malnutrition in Cape Coast Metropolis, South-Central Ghana

In a study of 265 children and their mothers in Cape Coast, one in five children was stunted. Stunting was more common where mothers had less education, lower income or no job, and less common among children who were exclusively breastfed for their first six months.

Stunting affected 20.7% of children, wasting 11.3% and underweight 16.6%.
