Mandate for Health: Health Week 2025

The Klintaps College of Allied Sciences (KCOHAS) SRC Week 2025 officially launched on Saturday, September 20, 2025, with a significant Clean Up Exercise & Launching event, aligning with the theme "Good Health and Well-being for All: Your Eyesight, A Window to Your Health."
Promptly starting at 7:00 AM, students and staff gathered to carry out the clean-up in the Klagon Community. Participants actively engaged in clearing waste, desilting gutters, and general sanitation activities, fostering communal responsibility and environmental stewardship.

Day 2 featured a dynamic Health Walk, with a branded truck leading the way and the MC continuously introducing KCOHAS to the community. The route covered key areas including Agapet, the Underbridge area, and the Ashaiman Traffic Light, with announcements in various local languages.

Under a starlit sky, Klintaps hosted its Bonfire Night as a central part of the Health Week festivities, bringing students, faculty, and guests together for reflection, festivity, and communal bonding.
Day 3 featured Symposium Day One dedicated to eye health, chaired by Professor Moses Jojo Eghan. He introduced a three-pillar framework: Awareness Creation through Education, Accessibility and Equity, and Integration into Primary Healthcare.
Mr. James Owusu illuminated how MRI and CT scans have revolutionized the detection of ocular and systemic diseases. Ms. Gabriele Rein highlighted that an estimated 600,000 individuals in Ghana are affected by vision problems. Dr. Francis Samuel Codjoe lectured on the critical role of laboratory investigations in ocular health.

The Inter-Departmental Quiz Competition on September 23rd tested students on human anatomy, physiology, pathology, problem-solving exercises, and quantitative techniques, promoting friendship, intellectual discussion, and healthy competition.

Symposium Day Two featured Mr. Wilson Gbeku on nutrition and eye health, Mr. Douglas Frimpong Nuroh on traditional views and care for eyesight, and Dr. Nana Agyei Daniel on community strategies to prevent eye diseases.
The Variety Entertainment event on September 26th offered traditional board games like Oware and Ludo alongside digital thrills with car racing and online football matches, providing a valuable break from academic routines.
Day 5 took students on an excursion to Nzulezu Stilt Village in Ghana's Western Region, accessible by motorized canoe. Activities included guided village tours, cultural interaction with residents, and a stop at Fort Apollonia.

The Community Health Screening delivered free services including tests for malaria, syphilis, typhoid, and hepatitis B, blood group testing, hemoglobin levels, eye exams, ultrasound scans, X-rays, BMI assessment, and counseling sessions to residents of Klagon, Lashibi, and surrounding areas.

The Inter-Level Football Gala featured five teams: L100, L200, L300, L400, and Staff. L200 beat L100 (2-1), and L300 & L400 beat Staff (2-1). The final between L300/L400 and L200 ended in a tie after a tense penalty shootout.

The Grand Durbar and Alumni Homecoming at the J.O. Gorleku Lecture Theatre brought together students, faculty, alumni, and healthcare professionals. Experts delivered presentations on eye protection, preventive care, and how conditions like hypertension and diabetes can be detected through changes in the visual system.
The celebration concluded with a Thanksgiving and Gospel Rockshow on October 5, 2025, dubbed JUDAH. Prof. Ernest Owusu-Ansah delivered the Word of Exhortation on "Living a Righteous Life to Be the Apple of God's Eyes." The Registrar, Mr. Douglas Frimpong-Nuroh, praised the students' commitment and voluntarism throughout the entire Health Week.
