INTRODUCTION
Klintaps College of Health and Allied Sciences kicked off its annual Health Week celebrations, a week-long initiative aimed at promoting health and wellness among students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community and also promoting the school and showcasing its achievements to the world. The event featured a variety of activities, including health screenings, workshops, community outreach programs, and social events.
The Health Week is a testament to Klintaps College‘s commitment to holistic student development and social responsibility. By providing access to resources and promoting healthy lifestyles, the college aims to empower its students to become responsible and informed professionals.

DAY 1—CLEAN UP EXERCISE AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Klintaps College kicked off its annual Health Week with a community clean-up initiative in the Klagon township. Students and staff from all departments came together to contribute to the beautification and well-being of their community.
Armed with brooms, rakes, and trash bags, the students diligently cleaned up litter, debris, and overgrown vegetation. Their efforts helped to improve the overall cleanliness and appearance of the township, making it a more pleasant and conducive environment for all of its residents.
In the evening, the Week’s festivities continued with a vibrant bonfire gathering at the Klagon TWMA school park. Students gathered around the crackling fire, enjoying music, dancing, and socializing. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and friendship as the students celebrated the start of a week dedicated to health and well-being.




DAY 2– HEALTH WALK
Monday, 16th September, 2024
Klintaps College continued its festivities with a vibrant walk through the streets of Klagon and Lashibi. The event served as a unique opportunity to showcase the college to the local community while promoting a good and active lifestyle.
Students, faculty, and staff joined together for the walk, which took them through the bustling streets of Klagon and the picturesque Lashibi community. As they walked, the participants had the chance to interact with residents and share information about the college’s programs and offerings. The walk also served as a great way to promote physical activity and raise awareness about the importance of exercise for overall well-being.
The health walk was not only a fun and engaging activity but also a valuable opportunity to connect with the community. By showcasing the college to the residents of Klagon and Lashibi, the students were able to raise awareness of the valuable contributions that Klintaps College makes to the local community.







DAY 3– SYMPOSIUM AND INTER-DEPARTMENTAL QUIZ
A Symposium on Nutrition and Health: A Journey of Discovery
Tuesday 17th September, 2024
The third day of the celebrations, Klintaps College hosted a symposium on nutrition and health, bringing together students, faculty, staff from the school, and guests from Narh-Bita College. The event was a platform for sharing knowledge and insights on the crucial role of nutrition in maintaining optimal health.
The theme for the symposium was “ Ensuring good health and well-being for all: Your Diet is your health”
The symposium commenced with opening remarks from the Chairman, Prof. Paul Amuna (Consultant Nutritionist, UHAS), setting the tone for a productive and informative discussion. Mr. Douglas Frimpog-Nnuroh, the Registrar of Klintaps College, delivered a warm welcome address, emphasizing the importance of nutrition education for students in the healthcare field.
The first session focused on the connection between nutrition and overall health. Mrs. Pamela Achiaa Addae, a registered dietitian from Klintaps College, highlighted the alarming prevalence of diet-related diseases in the 21st century. She urged the audience to prioritize good eating habits and diversify their diets.
Dr. Jimmy Frimpong, a resident optometrist, followed up with a presentation on the impact of nutrition on eye health. He stressed the importance of protecting our eyes from excessive screen exposure and consuming nutrient-rich foods to support optimal vision.
The second session delved into specific dietary considerations for various conditions. Mr. Francis Nyasem from Klintaps College discussed the relationship between diet and allergies, while Professor Richard K. D. Ephraim from the University of Cape Coast focused on food poisoning prevention. Both speakers emphasized the importance of proper food handling and storage to avoid contamination.
The symposium also featured presentations on sickle cell disease and body image. Ms. Mary Magdalene Effah Ayaw from Kitchen Chemist Consult and a member of Sickle Life highlighted the significance of understanding one’s sickle cell genotype and its impact on dietary needs.
Mr. Alhaji Swallah Suraka from Klintaps College discussed the relationship between diet and body image, emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach to nutrition and self-acceptance.
The symposium concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, providing attendees with the opportunity to seek clarification and engage in further discussion. The event was a resounding success, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of the vital role of nutrition in maintaining overall health and well-being.







Inter-Departmental Quiz
The Klintaps College Health Week celebrations continued gracefully with an exhilarating interdepartmental quiz competition held at the J. O Gorleku Lecture Theater.
The competition, which tested the students’ knowledge on a wide range of health-related topics, was a fierce battle of wits and intellect. After several rounds of intense competition, the Department of Medical Laboratory Science emerged victorious, securing a commanding lead with a score of 70.5 points.
The Department of Medical Imaging (Radiography) followed closely behind, securing second place with a score of 59.75 points. The Department of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and the Department of Community Nutrition and Dietetics rounded out the top four.
The quiz competition was a highlight of the Week, fostering brotherliness, intellectual exchange, and a sense of healthy competition among the students. It showcased the diverse knowledge and skills of the students across different departments in the school.









REP YOUR ALMA MATER AND VARIETY ENTERTAINMENT

The Klintaps College of Health and Allied Sciences celebrations continued with a thrilling cooking competition that showcased the culinary skills of students, faculty, and staff.
Teams from the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, the Department of Medical Imaging, the Department of Community Nutrition and Dietetics, the Department of Ophthalmic Dispensing and the Foreign Students Association battled it out in the kitchen, preparing a variety of delicious dishes.
In a close competition, the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences emerged victorious once again, impressing the judges with their culinary expertise and creativity. The competition was not only a test of cooking skills but also an opportunity for students to bond over their shared passion for food.
To add to the festive atmosphere, the students dressed in their senior high school uniforms, representing their alma maters with pride. This nostalgic touch created a sense of unity and togetherness among the participants.
While the cooking competition was underway, a vibrant variety show entertained the audience with a range of performances, including singing, dancing, and other talents. The show showcased the diverse skills and creativity of the students, adding to the overall enjoyment of the week’s festivities.
